Challenging stigma and promoting inclusive education through storytelling in Tanzania and beyond!

A collage of three images featuring Debora Maboya from Tai Tanzania at the GDS event in Berlin. In the first image, she stands smiling beside another woman in front of a Zero Project backdrop. In the second image, Debora, dressed in a patterned red and white outfit, poses with three other individuals on stage while holding a publication. In the third image, she is speaking confidently on stage with a microphone, wearing a tan blazer and a black T-shirt, in front of banners from the Austrian Embassy Berlin.

Tai Tanzania uses storytelling and digital media to develop inclusive educational content supporting children with disabilities. Its 3D animations, comics, and radio dramas have impacted over 5 million people through traditional and online platforms. With expansion into Kenya and plans for Ghana, Tai Tanzania aims to scale globally.

As the Scaling Fellows championed by GIZ, Tai Tanzania had been invited to attend the Global Disability Summit (GDS). Co-hosted in 2025 by Germany, Jordan, and the International Disability Alliance (IDA), the Summit brought together over 4,700 participants from more than 160 countries in Berlin. During the event, Debora Maboya, the Head of Operations and Programs at Tai delivered her powerful pitch and connected with the GDS Participants at the Zero Project exhibition booth.

As a direct impact, it strengthened the collaboration between Tai and GIZ, which continues beyond the Scaling Solutions Programme. Recently, Debora has represented Tai at another Berlin event, re:publica 2025: Generation XYZ, the world’s leading conference on digital society. Tai joined GIZ in the panel titled “Makers, Movers, and Digital Innovators: How Digital Skills Empower Africa to Drive Global Transformation.”

From Tanzania to the global spotlight in Berlin, the message is clear: stories have the power to break barriers. Through animations, digital tools, and education, we can create spaces where every voice is heard, every child is seen, and no one is left behind.
